One of Britain’s most gifted sculptors, Paul Day, has produced a working maquette in terracotta, to provide an idea of the form that the sculptural element might take. The sculpture will be cast in bronze. The form will be similar to that of a medieval triptych with a central universal figure of the Virgin Mary. The Memorial will be placed on a broad granite plinth and have bronze plaques set in the top surface giving information on the history of the Reformation. The words Mary Most Holy will be written in a number of languages. It is intended that the Memorial will not only commemorate a historical event which took place in Chelsea over 450 years ago but also be an inspiring means of reconciliation and interfaith dialogue and prayer.
